Quiz today.  Didn’t do too well.  Clearly no one in my group, including me, looked at the material outside class.  Something to remember for next time.  Test next wekk.Strategic Predispositions

  • Ethnocentric predisposition – a nationalistic philosophy of management where the cultural norms/views of the parent company control the subsidiary branches.  Every other place is expected to work like the main branch.
  • Polycentric predisposition – Strategic decisions are tailored to fit area where each section of a multinational company is located.
  • Regio-centric predisposition – Blended approach, various branches are expected to conform to regional norms, as opposed to parent company norms.
  • Geocentric Predisposition — Company tries to integrate a global systems approach to decision making.

The Globalization Imperative is the belief that one worldwide approach to doing business is key to efficiency and effectiveness.  In practice, we aren’t here yet.  You have to adapt to local differences if you’re going to operate internationally.

Parochialism is the tendency to view the world only through the lens of your own personal experiences and norms.

Simplification is the tendency to treat everyone the same.
Organizational culture is the shared values and beliefs enabling members to understand their roles and the norms of the organization.
