Gov’t Budgeting, March 26 2008

Starting up in here again.  Talking about some budgeting in the news.  Apparently Dallas is having to turn off some of its red-light cameras, because they’re working too well.  They’re deterring drivers from running red lights, which has cut ticket revenue so low that it doesn’t cover the operation of the cameras.Reviewing fo the test next week, after a short lecture.

Governments collect most of their Own-Source revenue from income taxes, payroll taxes, sales taxes, and property taxes.  Additional sources of revenue include:

  1. Intergovernmental aid at the state and local levels
  2. Reimbursements for service
  3. Utility and infrastructure taxes
  4. Miscellaneous (sin taxes, etc.)

The vast majority of federal revenue comes from income and then payroll taxes.
