Sick people, sick cars, sick phones

Filed under: General — Phillip Womack @ 11:09 pm

Woke up this morning running a fever, and feeling like a person who was, well, running a fever.  I think whatever got ahold of me took effect late last night; I wasn’t in my best form yesterday, but I didn’t feel ill until 11:00 or so, after coming home from my brother’s house. Didn’t get much done today.  Need to go job hunting, but never quite got moving for it.  Talked to my aunt about an opening at the company she’s contracting for; that may work out, but I’m not holding my breath.  They’re looking for an intern to fill a QA position, but they normally get an engineering student for it.  Plan B is to go sign up at a temp agency; I think my experience should be useful there.  No guarantees, though.

When my aunt was trying to call me to talk jobs, my phone decided to flip out.  It would ring once, and then go dead.  Over and over.  From her end, it sounded like a fax machine picking up, which is odd insofar as to the best of my knowledge there is no fax machine in this house.  I finally managed to snag the phone on the first ring, and heard a fax beeping at me.  I hung up on it, and figured that someone put a wrong number in their fax and left it autodialing.  I snagged the next ring, and started yelling into the line that there wasn’t a fax machine here, hoping whoever owned the calling fax was close enough to it to hear my voice, and lo and behold, it was family on the other line.  I have no explanation for this.

Went to Business Calc; at least that’s going better.  I think I’m getting a handle on that class.  At least, I understood eveything we did today easily, and when we had our end-of-class quiz, I was the one explaining everything to the folks around me, instead of the reverse.  That’s a good thing.

After class, I stopped off at Wal-Mart and picked up some J.B. Weld and washers.  The driver’s seat in my car had one of the four bolt-down points crack loose, which meant it rocked when you sat in it, and probably would have kept deteriorating further over time.  I J.B-Welded the cracked parts back together, and then I further J.B-Welded a couple of steel washers across the bolt hole and broken areas for reinforcement.  Don’t know if that will fix it or not, but I’m hopeful.  Tomorrow when I drive it again will be the real test.

Now to try to get some sleep.  Still running a fever; hopefully that won’t keep me up too long.
